  MY IMMEDIATE FAMILY

 

ACTIVITY:                 My Immediate Family

POPULATION:        1st Graders

CONSTRUCT:         Self-Awareness

TIME:                         30 Minutes

MATERlALS:           Paper, crayons or markers

 

GOAL:

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

PROCEDURES:

1. Arrange students in a circle. Welcome the class.

2. Icebreaker:

An activity I like to do with my family is_____________

 

3. As a class - have students brainstorm all people who can be considered family members. List these on the chalkboard. Which people live with you? Those are immediate family. Which people live elsewhere? Those are extended family.

 

4. Pass out paper and crayons or markers.

Have students draw an immediate family portrait.

Remind them to include only immediate family members.

Be prepared to discuss diverse family living situations, i.e. two single parents with children sharing a home, a mom and boyfriend, grandparents raising children, etc.

GOAL:

 

OBJECTIVES:

 

PROCEDURES:

1.      Arrange students in a circle. Welcome the class.

 

2. Icebreaker:

Name one thing you do well.

 

3. Discussion: What is praise?

                          How does it make you feel?

                          When should you praise others?

 

4. You may need to model this before beginning by praising (or complimenting) the person on your right.

 

5.  Have students say a statement of praise to the person to their right.  

 

HOME PRACTICE ASSIGNMENT:

 

praise a family member tonight.
